Dr. Martens X Central Saint Martins
“In 2023, we teamed up with the global powerhouse of creative education, Central Saint Martins, for a second time. Offering our Original 1460 boot as a new expressive canvas, we challenged 9 standout students from the MA fashion course to create a unique look which captured the rebellious spirit of the first ever Dr. Martens boot.” -From the Dr. Martens website
This suit was designed and made for the Dr. Martens X Central Saint Martins Project. The silhouette is inspired by both the Dr. Martens boots and the Icelandic national costume and I used the fastenings from an old national costume on the front of the suit. The fabric is Icelandic Tweed by Kormákur & Skjöldur and is sourced straight from the company that makes it in Iceland.
The shoes were hand-embroidered with a gold thread with a motif inspired by the fastenings of the the national costume and burnished with a gilding wax I created from the same gold-dust as used on the suit.
